Beauty and The Beast Prologue (English)
Narrator: Once upon a time, in a faraway land, A young Prince lived in a shining castle Although he had everything his heart desired, The Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. But then, one winter’s night, an old beggar-woman came to the castle, And offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the Prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away, But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances, For beauty is found within. And when he dismissed her again, the old woman’s ugliness melted away To reveal a beautiful Enchantress. The Prince tried to apologize, but it was too late, For she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous Beast, and placed a powerful spell on the castle, and all who lived there. Ashamed of his monstrous form, the Beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year. If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return, By the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair, and lost all hope. For who could ever learn to love a Beast? © Disney Thanks everyone for loving this prologue
this sends chills down to my spine whenever I listen/watch the movie, and …
I love this and thanks so much for posting it. What’s really exciting is that Disney will release a 3D version next year….whoohoo!
this LITERALLY gives me goosebumps lol (and i’m a 22 year-old guy!)
@MsAzucha Suck on that too, Zac Effron.
So great, I remember watching this when I was a little boy. Despite many of my friends telling me that it was stupid to like it, this has and always will remain my favorite disney movie.
The opening sequence is probably one of the greatest in cinematic history … the depth … the colors … the beauty … and the one thing that always touches my heart, the one thing we will never be able to see in this world anymore … the red roses growing near the castle.
Is there any doubt as to why this movie was nominated for best movie of the year at the 64th Academy Awards? It was rich in story line, wonderful in animation and the music was exquisite.
Gosh, the intro from 1:30 to 2:22 scar(r)ed me so bad! It wasn’t until I was 12 before I could watch the prologue in its entirety.
This RIGHT HERE is an example as to why Beauty and the Beast is not only the greatest animated movie ever made, but also of how rivals ANY movie out there. Epic.
It’s only now that I’m an adult, I see the true beauty of this movie…when I was little, I loved this, but it’s not until now that I realize why I loved it so much
I’ve always liked this movie. Now, as an adult looking back, I realized that it was because it was unlike other Disney movies. The characters were deep, they had real conflicts within themselves as well as with each other. Also, the female lead wasn’t a pushover. She was a strong character who made decisions not because of some dream of a perfect relationship, but to save her father.
This is a movie worth watching a remembering.
@TheOdderOne Exactly my same thought. The lightning always made me hide into a pillow I thankfully still own, but all of this prologue has so much beauty. I love Disney, and I say that be cause THIS is Disney.
This prologue is an example of why old Disney of the 20th century rocks!
Beautiful movie! It´s one of my favourite Disney movies! I love the story <3
this brings back so many memories
this has to be one of my favorite disney movies
@TheOdderOne Know what you mean. Even though it was SO mystifying and daunting to hear the music and seeing the glass pictures as a little kid, for some unknown reason I was always compelled to watch. So much I could not close my ears and eyes to it. This is what made Beauty and The Beast so captivating and appealing from the beginning.
I get shivers watching this — It’s that gorgeous.
For Germans, this prologue is incorrect.
France isn’t a land far away lol.
Suck on that, Miley Cyrus
i’ve always loved this movie… i haven’t watched it in so long! when i was a kid, i didnt know that the rose wither away after his 21st birthday O.O this prologue was creepy as a child.. but it’s beautiful now <3
